Safety Policy

This Safety Handbook was developed for students, faculty, staff and/or visitors at the
NEES@UCSB field sites at Garner Valley and Salton Sea, California.

NEES Network Wide Saftey Policy

The purpose of this document is to provide an overarching policy that addresses safety for the NEES
network. This document outlines Responsibilities and Requirements for NEEScomm, Sites, and
Users (Researchers, their staff, or their students); Dispute Resolution; Responding to Accidents and
Incidents; and Web Accessible Safety Plans.

Report Unsafe Condition

UCSB employees and students may use this form to report any unrecognized, or uncontrolled
safety issues to Environmental Health & Safety. EH&S will investigate the safety issue to
determine if mitigations are needed. Form can be submitted anonymously if desired. Employees
are advised that it would be illegal for an employer to take any action against an employee in
reprisal for exercising their rights to report safety issues.

Hazard Correction Report

This form should be used in conjunction with the “Report of Unsafe Condition” form (IIPP Form I), as
appropriate, to track the correction of identified hazards.

Incident Report Form

This report is to be completed when an occupational illness or incident occurs. If an employee is injured or develops a job-related illness (developed gradually e.g., tendonitis)
as a result of their employment at UCSB they must complete and submit this report. If the employee is unable to complete or sign the form, the supervisor or department
representative must complete it on their behalf.
